How to Break Free of Nasty Food Additives in 3 Simple Steps

Guest Post by Dawn Riccardi Morris

Where is Crabby McSlacker? She's in Las Vegas of all places, celebrating her mother-in-law's 90th birthday.  And how cool is it to have a mother-in-law who wants to party in Vegas for her 90th? But anyway (in one of the lamest segues ever), let's remember that gambling is something best done in a casino for fun, and not in your local supermarket with your family's health at stake! This next guest post tackles the dilemma of food additives in processed products, even the supposed "natural" ones. Please welcome Dawn with her thoughts on how to make snacking less of a crapshoot.--Crabby

Why does it have to be so hard?

Every time you think you’ve got this healthy eating thing down pat, another article pops up about how toxic the food supply is.

Who has time to keep track of it all?

You thought you were ahead of the game because you can’t remember the last time you ate junk food. Geez, you even gave up your favorite chips, and your usual candy at the movie theater.
And you can’t remember the last time you drank a diet soda.

But even more frustrating is that you’ve been buying products that are labeled “all-natural” and “organic” for a while now. How can harmful food additives still make their way into your home?

Dead Again! Best, Worst, Predictable and Shocking from Natural Products Expo West 2014

By Crabby McSlacker

So as you may recall from the first Dead-Blog of Natural Products Expo West 2014, we've established that I'm too lazy and greedy to "live blog" a trade show like most sensible bloggers. The whole "reporting" thing tends to get too much in the way of Eating Free Samples As Fast as You Can Snarf Them Up.

And it's the same deal today!  I'm in and out with clients to talk to and shelter cats to visit and Other Shit to do, and can't get it together to post all the pictures and impressions at once. Plus there are lots of "healthy" snacks left to sample and I can't do it all in one sitting or I'll explode into a huge four-alarm gluten free organic non-gmo stevia-sweetened conflagration. Not pretty.

Also, sorry, I know I've been spotty about comment reply, which is especially lame as the comments to recent posts were so great, but will try to pop in better later this afternoon.  But I ABSOLUTELY LOVE when you guys reply to each other and talk amongst yourselves!  Do you have any idea how freakin' rare that it is in the blogosphere?

OK, a brief Part One and I'm off to the gym...

Natural Products Expo West 2014: Dead-Blogged by Crabby!

By Crabby McSlacker

So, you know how reporters and bloggers go to an exciting event like the Natural Products Expo West and they "live-blog" it?  Readers can virtually experience the happenings themselves as they see pictures and impressions scroll by in Real Time.

Well, sorry, but "live-blogging" is SO not Crabby McSlacker!  That would require flexibility, multi-tasking, and a focus on something other than "where is the next free snack and how many samples can I take home with me?"

A Huge Crapload of Samples, Yay!

However, since the expo is now over and it's too late to "live blog" it, how about I Dead-Blog it instead?

That's right, I'll start with some initial impressions, and then, LIVE throughout the day, I'll review and photograph some random stuff as I scarf it up. Bonus: this will allow me wander away from the computer to go to the gym and tackle dirty laundry and do Important Coaching Things like forgetting to invoice people and see what's going on at other blogs, yet to come back and add more stuff so I don't feel all guilty that I haven't managed to crank out even one simple blog post yet.

All this will be in totally random order, btw, because that's way easier!

Sound like a plan?

In Defense of Fake Foods

By Crabby McSlacker

Yep, Crabby is feeling all contrary today and thought she'd try to stir up some controversy by contradicting every normal sane health blogger in the world with this daring pronouncement:

It's perfectly OK to Consume Fake, Processed, Non-Natural Foods...!

...Sometimes.

Well, so maybe it doesn't sound quite as controversial with that qualifier, but I'm not a total idiot.
