Fitness DVD Giveaway and Gratuitious Explosions

[Posted by Crabby]
Yes, it's Fourth of July and if you're an American you're probably not here. You're off at a picnic or a barbecue or a parade, risking sunburn, eating junky holiday food and waiting for it to get dark so you can watch the Ceremonial Explosions.

For the record: we're all in favor of eating crap on holidays and watching things blow up. (We are, however, against sunburns and eating crap every day of the year.)

So if you're reading this on Monday, that's just fine. The comments are still open for business and the winner of our DVD will not be chosen until Tuesday night and announced on Wednesday the Seventh or Whateverth.

Now let's talk about the whole Exercise DVD thing:

Do any of you ever workout to DVD's at home?

I don't know why I don't. I guess I just have my workout routines already and I tend to stick blindly to them.

Why attend a yoga or dance or martial arts class in the comfort and privacy of my own home, taught by an expert in the field, at my own convenience? When instead I can go to a gym and fight with others to use boring workout equipment I don't even like? Or go running or race-walking outside when it's humid and miserable and get bitten by mosquitoes?

It's a mystery--but there you go. But, if I were smarter, I'd have hogged a DVD for myself and reviewed it instead of giving it away. So we're all lucky that I'm kinda dumb, right?

Anyway, if you are a fitness DVD fan already or are tempted to try one, this is an excellent opportunity. The folks at Acacia not only seem to have some very cool DVD's, but they're willing to let you choose whichever one you want from their catalog.

And best of all, you don't have to be a United States resident to enter!

They've got all kinds of stuff, and from the previews, the production values look pretty top-notch. You can find Bollywood dance workouts and strength training and Tai Chi and Yoga Trance Dance. They've got stuff by Shiva Rea, Duncan Wong, and a bunch of other folks. Or, if you really want to take a walk on the wild side, you can check in with Dr. Andrew Weil and get a nice sensible lecture about eating your vegetables.

So here are your important instructions:

In order to actually get the DVD you want, and not just one I pick at random to amuse myself (hmm... would Dr. J like a prenatal fitness DVD?), go to the catalog and pick a title. Then leave a comment in this post letting us know which one you'd want if you won. Or, you can also just stop in and say hi and talk about holidays or indoor workouts or whatever! We love comments. But if you're angling for a DVD, do remember to say which one.)

A Random Number Generator will pick the winner.

And don't forget to check back Wednesday to see if you won. If so, email us at crabby mcslacker at gmail dot com (no spaces) with your name and mailing address and you'll get your DVD in the mail!

Warning: If the winner doesn't check in by midnight Thursday night, we'll pick a new winner.

So have a great long weekend (if you get one) and party like it's 1776!

UPDATE: The winner has now been chosen!

  1. Happy Independence Day. I hope you enjoy yourself silly.

Pass on the DVD, though. I'd never use it.

  2. I've been to the library a number of times to try to find a good exercise DVD that I can ultimately buy, but the choices are quite outdated and limited. I don't think I could take Richard Simmons' enthusiasm on a regular basis... or once. I'm not a gym person for a number of reasons so it's either a scheduled hour for a TV fitness show (most of which are yoga, which I don't like) or find a DVD. If I were to win, "Keeping Fit in Your 50s" sounds apt for me.. sigh!

All you Amurikans have yourselves a great holiday weekend!

  3. Elaine Petrone: Stop the Clock DVD

    Looks interesting.

    thanks! Happy 4th.

  4. Living in Canada, I had my glorious long weekend last weekend so all you Americans - enjoy!

If I were to win, I'd move the coffee table out the way and shimmy away to Bollywood Burn with Hemalayaa

I'll even post a video of me shimmying!

  5. Ahh, Independence day, when my Number Two Son, age 12, is in charge of not only the grill, but the explosives detonated (mostly sparklers and small firecrackers, with dad hovering nearby, hose in hand).

Yes, I did my workout this morning, intervals today, but I'm getting tired of the same old routine. A new fitness DVD would be wonderful; if I don't win the Elaine Petrone Method DVD, I just may have to save up and buy it.

Thanks for the great site; I don't have time to respond often, but I try to stop by each day for a dose of common sense and fun.

  6. Happy Independence Day from the Old Continent.

I would probably enjoy irritating the family with "Bollywood Burn...", sounds more fun than the more appropriate "Keeping Fit in Your 50s". Hi Hilary.

  7. The selections are heavy on the yoga, aren't they? Since that's where my interest is, and since (pause to count) I have 34 yoga video podcasts that I have painfully downloaded over dial up and never yet taken the laptop upstairs to watch any of them, I'd say I don't deserve to win a DVD. Let some Canadians have a chance this time. (Hear me, Random Number Generator?)

  8. Almost any of those DVD's would work for the Bag Lady! (well, except the pregnancy ones...that ain't nevah gonna happen!!) but the "Keeping Fit in Your 50's" would suit her well, or the (darn can't remember what it was called) one with the different types of dancing (close to the top of the list)....sigh. Not that she's expecting to win, mind you!

    Happy Independence Day, y'all!!

  9. Sigh... I have to work from home today... well, part of the day anyway. Everyone on my team is off enjoying the long weekend except for one holdout, who's chosen to work the day because he's English and living in England and took Guy Fawkes day off. On the plus side, his day ends at 8 am my time, so it's a short work day.

I love exercise DVDs, myself. No one sniggers if you get the moves wrong. :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Keeping fit in your fifties would probable be what would help me most ;) I would totally use it!! Definitely wouldn't hurt to try.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Happy 4th. I'd choose Dr. Andrew Weil's Guide to Eating Well. Because I'm all about eating.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love exercise DVDs. I don't have a gym membership these days and DVDs are great for variety. Also, I am better at following a weight routine (i.e. not getting lazy and skipping exerices) if I am using a DVD.

I am intrigued by the hoola hoop DVDs. I have a hula hoop, but I had no idea you could get workout DVDs for them...So I would be interested in the beginner hoola hoop DVD.

  13. Well, my Spinervals videos will always have a special place in my heart, but whether I win or not, I'll have to look into some of these, especially for times I don't want to do cardio. The "Strong Body, Ageless Body" looks cool. I used to love going to weight training class, but now that I have a workout studio of my own, I can have my "class" right here!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Okay, Okay, I admit to being in my sixties but I'm with the Bag Lady and would love a copy of "Keeping Fit in Your 50s"

Happy Independence Day and a great weekend to everyone.

    thanks for the contest.

  17. Happy 4th!

I'd like the Beautiful Belly with Hemalayaa please, and a side order of Fries. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. When you choose me, I'd like the Shiva Rea Yoga for beginners.

I'm not ready to take a plunge into an organized yoga class. Besides, it's cuts into my golf schedule! :)

  19. I don't know much about Bollywood dancing, which is exactly why I think that video would be a lot of fun (and 50 minutes of entertainment). Happy 4th everyone! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  20. How exciting that us Canadians get to be entered too! I love workout dvds. I'd choose the Kung Fu Kickboxing Workout- it looks challenging and I've always wanted to do something like martial arts:) Have a great Fourth of July!

    ReplyDelete
  21. If I won, I would want "Erin O'Brien’s Prenatal Fitness Fix". And I think that since that's the one you WANTED to give away, I should win. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Happy 4th!!! I think the Dance of the Kama Sutra would be fun because.....well....I think we all know why ;) Please pick me random generator!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. One Bollywood Dance Workout, please!

    ReplyDelete
  24. i have no space in the current room set up to do a dvd (well, that, and i have a few already that i never use) so i'll pass.

and happy 4th! i was considering celebrating the american way by being lazy ... but then went ahead and ran the neighborhood 5k anyway.

  25. Another Canadian to add to the crowd - who enjoyed Canada Day last weekend and wishes a happy Independence Day to you all (sweet that it lands on a Friday, no?)

As a fitness instructor, I am always looking for new inspirations for my participants so my vote is for the Kung Fu Kickboxing Workout! DVD (You have to say it in a hyper, punctuated and loud way to get the full effect). Would love to be able to add some kicks, and punches to the usual cardio routine! Ka-Pow!

    Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have a few exercise dvds but I prefer my treadmill because my dvds are kind of boring. Yes, you heard me right... a treadmill is more interesting than the dvds I have.

I'm sure I would enjoy Bollywood Burn, if the random number generator were to pick me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Happy 4th to all! Love your blog!I would love to amuse my family by doing Bollywood Burn with Hemalayaa

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Elaine Petrone: Stop the Clock DVD"
That one sounds interesting to me. Happy Independence Day.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Yoga to the Rescue for Back Pain"

Enjoy your Independance Day. I am enjoying it because it makes my work in Canada quiet enough for an extended lunch break on my already short, 2-day work week. :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would love Step-by-Step Tai Chi with Tiffany Chen! Have a Happy 4th!

    ReplyDelete
  31. You guys are so awesome! I had no idea that so many cool people would stop by on the 4th, and I'm loving these comments.

I am only allowing myself a few minutes online today... have gone on a lovely Rock Walk, attended a parade, and a barbecue and fireworks are on tap next. Hope those of you who get a holiday are having a lovely one, and those of you who don't have fun plans for the weekend.

I sure wish we had dvd's for everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Happy Independence Day!

I'd love to have Shiva Rea: Flow Yoga for Beginners if I'm the lucky winner. (I knew there was a reason I should clear out my rss reader today. Glad I stopped by!)

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Bollywood Dance Workout - because it's sexy *and* saucy!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have no picnic to attend. Boo.

I sometimes (I'll embarrassingly admit) do either 8 minute abs or my sister-in-law's 20 minute pilates ab workout. It's good for a change of pace. But I could NOT do it every day of the week!!!

    Happy 4th!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Happy 4th! well since i love Indian food and all things Indian in general, i'd go for the "bollywood burn". I loved the movie "bride and prejudice" so anything to get me to dance even close to that is cool!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love me some Yin yoga, so I vote for: Yin and Yang Yoga with Simon Low; just in case the random number generator likes me best. Happy 4th!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Finally, a contest us 'oversea' readers get to enter....thanks Crabby and Merry...

My DVD pick - Beautiful Belly with Hemalayaa - looks useful and fun too!!!

Happy Independence Day from wintery New Zealand...

  38. Pick me! Pick me! I have a whole collection of DVDs and take some out of the library too because I'm easily bored if I do one too many times in a row.

It's the only way I get any exercise in because I cant figure out how to make time or enough money to go to a gym.

If I win, I'd like to thank the academy...oh wait, wrong speech... if I win, please send me the 3 in 1 total body fitness. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ooo ooo ooo! Strong Body, Ageless Body with Erin O’Brien for me, please!! I've dropped three sizes since I got serious about strength training; I'd love a routine I could do at home.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi! I'd love either the Bollywood Burn or Bollywood Dance workout DVDs. Thanks so much and Happy Fourth! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. As I've recently become obsessed with yoga, I'd definitely have to go for 'Duncan Wong's Yogic Arts: Awakening Level' if I won...and I hope I do. It looks intense.

Happy Independance Day to all you people south of the border! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hurray! I love things you don't have to be in the US to enter!

I would like The Bollywood Dance Workout please, or the other bollywood dvd if that one is not available, thank you.

    Happy (belated) 4th of July!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I actually do work out to exercise DVDs at home. Takes less time than getting stuff together and going to a gym. Never mind I hate gyms and don't belong to one.

If I don't win Hoopnotica I'm going to buy it on my own. I've already got a hoop, I just need to put it to use.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, fabbo!

Hard choice between Shiva Rea, Dr. Weill, and Jivamukti.

Can we have, like, multiple drawings, or something?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Let's hope the number generator picks me. Wouldn't it make your blog seem cool and cosmopolitan to send the workout dvd to a little town on the North West coast of Ireland? :D

Anyway, I'm highly interested in the Bollywood Dance workout. I think it looks like a lot of fun, despite the fact that I will likely look like an IDIOT doing it. The beauty of doing it in your own home :D

    ReplyDelete
  46. As much as I'd like one of the Bollywood ones I think I'd go with Dr. Andrew Weil's Guide to Eating Well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Aftermath of the Fourth-

    crappy food-check.
    napping-check.
    sunburn-check.
    fireworks-check.

And now I'm debating running outside or treadmill.

If I win, I like the Kung Fu Kickboxing workout DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for the opportunity! I'd love to have the Hoopnotica DVD - it would encourage me to get that hoop OUT of my closet and around my belly where it belongs!

    ReplyDelete
  49. We had a nice July 4th, and I ended up not eating too badly.

I find that I like to get out as often as I can, but as was written about earlier, the humidity gets pretty brutal here, so there are days where I have to exercise inside. And of course days where there's a Thunderstorm (or ice in the winter) and it's just safer to be inside. A DVD exercise is easier at that time.

Of course after saying all this, I think I'd prefer "Dr. Andrew Weil's Guide to Eating Well" since I like his stuff normally.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Awesome!

Hoopdance Basics: Beginner Level 1 sounds like fun (and something I can't get at my gym)!

    ReplyDelete
  51. What a great contest! I work out at home often. My favorite work out DVD is Jari Love 1000 ripped. I also like the Billy Blanks Boot Camp DVD series. If I win the contest I would love to try Srong Body, Ageless Body #51104. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  52. I use workout DVDs all the time! The hotels I stay at when I'm away from home don't always have fitness rooms, so I use the DVDs as a backup. If I win I would love either the Qi Gong: Fire & Water with Matthew Cohen, or the The Kung Fu Kickboxing Workout. Loving all the new giveaways Crabby, I read everyday, even if I don't post a comment.

    Noah

  53. I'd love the Bollywood Dance Workout. However I'm not sure if I have the coordination to pull it off, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was out eating cotton candy and watching things blow up. I live in a small town and would love to do Tia Chi. So if I win, I want Step-by-Step Tai Chi with Tiffany Chen. Oh, lets face it I never win anything but I do have a question. Crabby, why does you blog always post at some ungodly hour of the morning? Are you up then?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hooray, more holiday weekend visitors!

Crystal--As to post times, I'm usually up early, but on this particular post I scheduled ahead--blogger now allows future post publishing. But yeah, usually if you see 6:37 or 5:58 that's me.

I'm on east coast time, which makes posting early a little easier. Merry, who is on west coast time and is generally more sensible than I am, is more likely to schedule her posts to have them come up roughly the same time of day I tend to post.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oooh, I'm having a tough time deciding between "Bollywood Burn With Hemalaaya" and the "Bollywoood Dance Workout." "Bollywood Burn" sounds a little more hardcore though - so I think I'd go for that one.

    Happy belated 4th!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Duncan Wong's Yogic Arts: Source Power.

    Sounds interesting...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Step-by-Step Tai Chi with Tiffany Chen. looks like a good introduction to something that's interested me for years.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'd love the Qi Gong or Tai Chi... mmm, peaceful movement...ahh!

    ReplyDelete
  60. wow! You're popular this weekend my little crab. :-)

As much as I'm exercise-phobic, I'd really like to try tai chi, so if I were to be picked (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!), I'd love to get Step-by-Step Tai Chi with Tiffany Chen.

    A demain!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Shiva Rea: Fluid Power Vinyasa Yoga. Only workout DVDs I've ever used (instead of just watched or even taken out of the library and ignored) are some of Shiva's others.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Cool prize!! I love the Complete Pregnancy Fitness with Erin O'Brien! Thank you for the chance!

Hope you had a fab holiday weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I would like to try the Step-by-Step Tai Chi with Tiffany Chen!

  64. Jivamukti yoga? I am so there! Since I can't actually, y'know, BE THERE, 'cause it's in New York and I'm in California.

    Anyway, have a great 4th!

  65. Hi - Happy 4th July (yes, I know it's Monday, but hey, we don't celebrate this holiday in the UK)
Anyway, I'm not a massive yoga fan (no patience) but the kung fu violent dvd seems very me!

    ReplyDelete
  66. This was my first 4th of July as a US citizen. For reals.
And yes, I totally am a work out DVD person. If the random number generator picks my comment, though we know it won't, I would like for Crabby to pick the DVD, because I trust Crabby's taste, and sense of humor.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Shiva Rea: Creative Core Abs is the one I would want. I need to work the midsection some more.

The 4th of july was okay for me, nothing too special happened. Ate a couple of dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I do workouts in front of my tv, and that said, the 3 in 1 total fitness dvd looks good.

I have 2 dvds for workouts and I'm usually looking for something new to try.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'd love to try Bollywood Burn with Hemalayaa.
It is the kind of exercise I'd ONLY do with nobody watching though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oooh ooh, pick me!
Sign me up for the Bollywood dance workout DVD...it sounds like a helluva lot of fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ooh! Exercise DVDs. The thing I foolishly spend money on when I can't afford to, because "it's so much cheaper than a gym membership!"

i would go for the Bollywood Burn, because I am moving soon to a place with a marginally bigger living room, and I will have room to dance! no more carefully angled stretching for me!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hey there, happy un-4th of July! I'd love to try the Beautiful Belly DVD, if I am a lucky one...

Hope you had a great weekend.

    MJ

  73. I think The Bollywood Dance Workout sounds fun!

    Happy belated 4th :)

  78. Yoga to the Rescue for Back Pain...typical 9-5er with a desk job. Any relief for my back would be a HUGE help!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great giveaway!!!!! I would love to win, and should I BE the lucky winner...I'd choose the Shiva Rea: Creative Core Abs video. That sounds like my kind of work out since that is always the hardest to build.

    Thanks so much!!!
