Man Overboard: Castaway

Jack Sh*t over at Jack Sh*t Gettin' Fit is back with another guest post, as Crabby McSlacker frantically packs her bags for her upcoming adventure in the exotic wilds of South Africa and Frisco, Texas.  She flies out tomorrow morning.

Oops, wrong city!
Always did have a crappy sense of direction.

But anyway, Crabby hasn't forgotten that tonight she and the Random Number Generator have a hot date to pick 6 winners in the Rick Hanson's Hardwiring Happiness and FBG's Anti-Diet Book Giveaway!

Winners announced tomorrow so please stay tuned.

Also, Crabby has belatedly stopped by to respond to some of the wonderful and amusing comments on yesterday's Secret Menu post. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delay!

Warning: there will probably be some travel pictures posted along the way during the next few weeks, with or without the usual pretense that they have anything to do with health and fitness. But on the plus side, there are some great guest posts in the works too!

And now, heeeee'res Jack! ---Crabby

Jack Heads to the Deep End: Another Super Secret Blog Post

Blah blah blah blah blobbity blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blobbity blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blobbity blah blah blah.

There! Now you're caught up.

Here's the next in my series of super-secret blog posts that somehow managed to find their way over to Cranky's site.

Oh, yeah. One more thing: blah blah blah.

Man Overboard: Castaway

For me, trying to lose weight is like the scene from the movie Castaway where a scraggly Tom Hanks finally attempts to make his way off his deserted island.

In his rickety raft, Hanks (and Wilson....don't forget Wilson!), fight through the crashing waves, trying to break through to the open sea.

That's what this feels like to me, these first few weeks back on track.

Waves crashing on my head.

Trying to push me back to where I started.

Trying to keep me stranded.

I'm fighting the waves of apathy and temptation, of inertia and instant gratification, trying to break free into the long and less exciting part of this journey.

Hey, Tom Hanks made it.

I will, too.

"I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise.
Who knows what the tide could bring."

  2. I'm in the exact same place... fighting my way back to the smoother seas of being "on track". This is a perfect reminder for me and I love a good image to get me through... Just a bit of white water and effort and I will feel so much better.
I hope you're feeling much better soon too!

  3. Never have I seen a post that sums up my inner-most thoughts like this one has. I think I will commemorate this moment by having a t-shirt made up so I will always remember. The word BLAH! maybe in faded grey text on a grey hoodie would be perfect!
Seriously I'm big on using my imagination to solve problems and the image of fighting through the breakers for a few weeks to get to a place where I can make steady progress is very attractive to me.

  4. Every big endeavor feels as if it starts that way. To me, it's the universe asking me if i really want what i say i want enough to fight through the first few awful weeks.

  5. It is a life long road of consistency & patience & always knowing yourself enough to change things when need be - I know you can do this Jack!

  6. Dear Jack -

What a succinct, spot-on description of how it is for so many of us as we are tossed about by waves of various kinds threatening to put us in dangerous waters.

And you are so right... there WILL be smoother sailing ahead once past those breakers. Pardon my awful metaphors - but you get it, yes? You struck a chord with this post for so many and you are NOT alone on that island or on the raft. We're right there with you.

  8. Good movie clip. I noticed that Tom Hanks is sad when he breaks on through to the other side. He is venturing into a new unknown. I'm been at my goal weight for over a year now and let me tell you, it feels fantastic! Fitting in clothes is awesome. It is worth the journey/struggle. And yes I still get hit by waves sometimes. It's all good.

    1. I remember thinking when I was 50 Lbs lighter than I am now that if I lost another 20 I would be so light I could fly. I was still obese but, the difference between dragging myself through my day and running up stairs was so extreme it seemed like flying was not too far off.
Then I damaged my knee running up stairs trying to fly a little too soon.
