Hint: not a pet, a sibling, or a deceased person!
Some people don't seem to need this sort of person or presence in their life and they do just fine. Me, I'm basically a crotchety misanthrope (or let's just say "independent," shall we?) but I gotta say, even for a prickly loner, having found such a person? It Rocks.
I could prattle on and on about "The Lobster," as she is known on the blog--how funny, generous, resourceful, patient, talented, charming, hard-working, forgiving, and adorable she is.
Or I could try to twist this into a post about exercise or dieting or personal development! Or hell, even make it a pitch for life coaching. I could come up with a list of 10 bullet-pointed tips, enumerating all the cool ways you can leverage the power of partnership to accomplish more in your life.
Or I could get all political and make this a post about gay marriage! (And speaking of which, if you're not overly offended by (mostly positive) stereotyping and haven't seen this video yet, check out this hilarious pro gay marriage video.)
But the heck with all that.
Instead I'll just say, "Happy 22nd Anniversary Robin, You Are My World and I Don't Care Who Knows it!"
Anyone else got a partner or support system of some sort you'd be lost without? Or if not (yet), what would you look for?
Happy Anniversary, Crustaceaous Ones!
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1907, and always celebrated it on Thanksgiving, no matter what date it fell on, so you may or may not share an anniversary with them. (I'd have to look it up.) May you all also have 57 happy years. (So get to work on that living forever thing.)
I think I'm a natural hermit, but I grew up surrounded by so many happy marriages (and also happy singles; we do happy in many flavors in my family) that I was never interested in less than the best. And I haven't come across the best yet.

"Never interested in less than the best" seems a very sensible approach, especially as you are happy and resourceful and independent! But who knows what fate has in store for you? And supportive social connections come in all flavors too, I just got lucky that mine is the 24 hour a day flavor!
DeleteYay for life partners, yay for having found your soulmate, and thrice yay for taking the time to show how much you appreciate her! *applauds* #8-D
ReplyDeleteAnd boo to the homophobic dinosaurs who have a problem with you guys getting married. Some people just think their way is the only way... *sigh*
Aw thanks Shadowduck! I am indeed a lucky gal to have found such a wonderful wife. And fortunately Cranky Fitness readers do not tend to be of the homophobic variety, or if they are, they have the sensitivity not to come here and rain on my big ol' gay pride parade. So yet again... I'm a lucky gal!
DeleteAww congratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sally! Though we're just newlyweds compared to you guys; you are relationship role models!
DeleteWow, 22 years, congratulations! As a gal less than five years into her marriage, I am always pleased to see relationships that have longevity. Gives me hope!
ReplyDeleteMy husband definitely makes it easier for me to stay fit. He respects the time I need away from him to do all that working out (and I think I've helped him develop his own routine just because if I'm doing it, he feels he should, too!), and he is the least picky eater I've ever cooked for, so my "it's my way or the highway" rules for what I cook and serve for dinner aren't a problem at all. I knew I wanted to find someone interested in health, but I still feel like I got pretty lucky.
Thanks Outsmart, that's so cool that your hubs is so supportive of your fitness goals, so many couples struggle with that! (And he's lucky too!)
DeleteHappy Anniversary from the Very Forward-Thinking And Extremely Reasonable Commonwealth of Massachusetts! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm fortunate to have a supportive partner who understands my crazy, doesn't resent my time at the gym, isn't intimidated by the fact that I can currently bench more than he can even though he is a foot taller, 100 lbs heavier and 10.5 years younger than I am, and all that good stuff that comes with sharing a home and family together. I didn't always have this, so I am always sure to appreciate it and make sure he knows that I do.
Hooray for Massachusetts! And that's where we got married, after a our Gavin-Newsome inspired SF marriage got tossed out by the CA courts.
DeleteAnd how awesome is it that you found a guy like that? He sounds like one in million. Or one in several hundred million! Love that you let him know how much you appreciate him!
Happy Anniversary! Congratulations on 22 years together!!! What a sweet love letter to your most important person...you made me "awwww" in reading this. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Shelley, really appreciate it!!!
DeleteHappy Anniversary! You are lucky to have such a wonderful wife, and I am sure that the Lobster also appreciates you!
ReplyDeleteThanks bag lady, and oddly enough, she DOES seem to appreciate me, though for what, I'm never quite sure!
DeleteNo, I'm the one that everyone else calls!!
ReplyDeleteOK, just kidding :-)
I had a person like that but she died three years ago :-(
Oh dear, so sorry about that Dr. J. She must have been very special.
DeleteSo sweet, real nice article Crabby, but where on earth did you find a RED phone box? I thought they were all gone. Oh Happy 22nd Anniversary to Robin!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rabia! We were in Scotland doing a house swap this summer, and the adorable red phone boxes were all over the place. It was all we could do to keep from jumping into every single one of them!
ReplyDeleteThat's cool prefer the red boxes.
DeleteHappy Anniversary. I think you both have a great wife.
ReplyDeleteThank you Leah!!!
DeleteAw! You made me all teary-eyed! Happy Anniversary to you both! And I love that picture - The Lobster is adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteHi JavaChick, and thank you! And I sure think she's adorable too.

Vielen Dank Puja!!! And hope all is well in Berlin!
DeleteCongratulations, Crabby and Lobster. You are my favorite example of a perfect couple: two smart, funny, kind, loving people who make everyone who knows you happier. You are grateful to have each other, and we are all grateful to have you guys as friends/family. I'm so grateful, I actually found the nerve to make a comment!
ReplyDeleteLove to you both from Lisa in Walnut Creek
P.S. That video is priceless.
Hey Lisa, wow, thank you SO MUCH for coming here and leaving such a lovely comment! I have this fantasy that one comment here will lead to other comments around the web and then before long a blog of your own which would be as awesome and amazing as you are.
DeleteWell, a gal can dream!
Congratulations! 22 years is nothing to sneeze at. (Although i don't believe crustaceans sneeze, do they?)
ReplyDeleteOoh, good question Messymimi! Can' speak for other crabs, but with my allergies, achooo!! This one sure does. Thanks so much!
DeleteAww that was very sweet! Crab and Lobster sitting in a tree...

Almost 30 years with an awesome husband? That's fantastic Jody! Thanks so much for the anniversary wishes.

Aww, thanks Hilary! And I just loved that video too!

Annie
Annie, that is so nice of you! I think YOU are pretty fricken awesome and hope to see you hanging out here again. Thanks so much!
DeleteHappy Anniversary! Here's wishing you many more anniversaries to come.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Reb!!!
DeleteI love this post, not to mention cute photo. Gay marriage finally passed in WA. It was really frustrating for me to see it narrowly pass while legalizing weed passed by a much larger margin.
ReplyDeleteI am off to watch the video. Just by the URL alone I can tell it will be funny.
Lobster is a cute gal. You guys are lucky to have each other.
Thanks so much, QD! So glad about Washington, as we have friends who can now get married and I'm looking forward to their wedding.
DeleteInteresting that the marijuana initiative was so much more popular, but am glad in any event that gay marriage won too!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU AND THE LOBSTER.
ReplyDeleteIm shouting.
Thats how much I love...
Holy crap, you're gay?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you and the Lobster make a wonderful couple. Congratulations and happy anniversary!
I'm way late to the party here, but happy anniversary!!!!!!! Crossing my fingers that California finally legalizes gay marriage.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Merry and Azusmom!!! And yeah, since California was the first (and second) place we got married (we do keep trying!) it's so weird that it still hasn't become legal in CA. Soon, I hope!
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable and so are you...happiest of anniversaries!
