Resolution Renovation... Plus Big Weird Giveaway!

Photo: Hypervocal.com

Did you make some hopeful New Year's Resolutions a few weeks back? Or, if you're not the resolution sort, have you set some worthy "self-improvement" goals?

Awesome!

So.... how's that going?

Perhaps you're exceeding your wildest dreams of success.  Or maybe you're pretty well on track to be one of the meager 12% who actually keep New Years Resolutions.  If so, way to go!

But if you've already abandoned ship on your promises to yourself, or are in danger of doing so soon--don't give up just yet.  Some simple suggestions may help you get right back on track again. Or at least they'll remind you that you have plenty company in resolution-related lameness. It's not just you!

So you can either go directly to some tips on Fixing Broken New Years Resolutions, or hang out here a bit longer and find out about the rather odd double-giveaway (plus Big Discount) we have going this week...with no need for a pesky U.S. mailing address like most giveaways!

First, The Weird Prizes:

1. A Handy Portable Exercise Gizmo!

And yes, it's a slightly-used but not-smelly-or-gross-or-anything demonstration model of a Jungle Gym XT suspension training system that would otherwise cost about a hundred bucks.  I already had a TRX when I did the review, so I haven't needed to use it myself.  I will clean and disinfect the handles and clumsily cram the thingy back into its undersized box with the accompanying DVD and mail it to one randomly chosen winner--and again, since it's coming from me personally, international folks can enter too!

2.  A package of 4 free Life Coaching sessions (plus an hour long intake) valued at $275 by a Life and Wellness coach we just happen to know!

 Hey There!

One winner will be randomly chosen, and again, you don't need to live in the U.S.  Sessions can be by cell phone, video skype call, or email, and would begin starting in March, to enable the winner a chance to fill out a form and sign a long-ass coaching contract, as well as to give the Coach a chance to skip town in late February for a family vacation.

I've been meaning to offer a 2012 coaching giveaway to Cranky Fitness readers, because they make the most awesome clients, and post-resolution season seemed as good a time as any!

3. Limited time 50% off life coaching discount:

For folks who sign up, get their forms in, and pay for a package before March 1, the Cranky Fitness 25% off discount of regular Life Coaching Rates will be increased to 50% off. (After March 1 it's back to 25% off, which is still a pretty darn good deal if you google around and compare prices. Which is sometimes a challenge because many coaches won't tell you upfront how much it's gonna cost!)

And if you get excited about the discount, sign up and pay and it turns out you win the giveaway?  No worries, your fee will be refunded to you.

Giveaway Instructions:

To enter the drawing for the suspension trainer, just leave a comment here on this post about anything in hell you feel like talking about.

To enter the drawing for the free life coaching, go to the Broken New Years Resolution post over at LiveaLittleCoaching.com and leave a comment there saying something vaguely related to resolutions or self-improvement goals. Note: if you want to leave a comment there but don't want any life coaching, you can always politely decline should you win! No need to explain exactly how unwelcome you'd find the prospect of winning in the comment itself unless you just can't help it.

Important Deadline: Drawings for both prizes will take place in about a week, and you'll have until the end of the day Friday February 17th to claim your prize.

Good luck, and hope you all are kicking resolution ass!

  1. Much as I love winning stuff I know I'll never use it. I only commented 'cuz that's what I do.

  2. Well thanks for stopping by Leah! I hate that "O Comment" line hanging out there right after a post goes up, and always appreciate your visits!

  3. Still hanging in on my "life change goals" as I like to call them. Although I am stuck on the scale, I'm trying not to weigh that often and measured this past week instead, a 3 inch loss tells me all the sweat I'm putting in is working, so like Bob Greene says, don't weigh in for a good month or two when first starting out, so I'm trying that so as not to be discouraged, but I'm 3 weeks in to working out consistently and I feel great. Thanks for always being a cheerleader Cranky!

  4. Since we are going to be portable ourselves, a portable work out thingy would be awesome.

  5. My only resolution for this year was to no buy more exercise gear... Therefore winning some exercise gear would be AWESOME.

    Thanks!

  6. This is my first comment since I discovered that you had started posting again. Can I say how thrilled I was when word reached me? I was so thrilled I would need cognitive SUPERPOWERS to express it!

    *ahem*

Anyway, I've also always been curious about TRX-style workouts and sort of dreaming of a home gym even though I (and le boyfriend) live in a tiny studio apartment.

  7. I've managed to keep my resolutions.
And even go above and beyond on a few :)

  8. It looks like a great work out, but like Leah (must run in the family) I know I wouldn't use it.

  9. I'm still working on my resolutions. Even though I am working out faithfully and I am getting more fit, my weight is still not budging. Maybe a suspension training system will keep me busy at home so I don't crave snacks so much! (Well, I can dream)

  10. I did TRX with a trainer and it sucked. Therefore, I want to do TRX more often.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've tried all kinds of exercise equipment over the years, but I've finally settled on a pair of running shoes and a sledgehammer with a towel wrapped round it as pretty much all I seem to need. I might head on over and see about that life coaching though..!

  12. Thanks you guys for stopping by, and sorry for the double-posting. But I gotta remember to send a bit of traffic over to the coaching site every now and then or I lose the excuse to futz away time blogging.

And that shovelglove link is awesome and hilarious!

  13. Making resolutions on a specific day always seemed too arbitrary for me. When the need strikes I resolve stuff. Or try to. But it's easier to keep them when you're fired up and get a bit of momentum going, rather than by basing it on a certain day. IMO.

  14. I like things! Things are good! I hope you're having a good day, and my life could use a good square kick in the pants from a coach!

    ReplyDelete
  15. That XT suspension system looks like just what I need. I do too much pounding on the treadmill and think that this different type of workout with more "flow' would do my body good!

    ReplyDelete
  16. So far so good on my goals for this year. I picked up a TRX earlier this year and have been using it religiously. Suspension training rocks!

    ReplyDelete
  17. We use the TRX for some of the exercises at my boxing fitness class, and that s*** is HARD! I'd love the Jungle Gym XT so I could secretly practise some of the exercises at home, so I won't look like such a dork doing them during class!

  18. just started my fitness program yesterday- it was not easy- we had to run over 12 k - my version was more like walk then run, then walk....
winning is great- just ask Charlie Sheen (hehehe)

  19. HOT DAMN, SUPER SPAM! You have NO idea how much I want one of those suspension trainers. I'd use it constantly. To work out, to pull crap across the yard, to tie my kids up long enough to find the duct tape to shut them up and also as a substitute for bondage gear, since that crap is just as expensive. lol
Well, I'd at least use it to work out and pull crap around with. And the life coaching thing sounds cool, but I barely have the extra time to shave my legs once a week and living in FL wearing jeans in 80 degree "winter" weather just sucks. I have a few people I'd nominate for it though, cause they totally suck at life. (That's gonna cost those lazy mofos about $4K in another 3 years.)
I'm one of those freakish 12%, I guess. For the most part, I'm still on track, though my "spending time with friends" plan is already at the highest rung of the fail ladder, but that's alright for now, cause they all understand.
Ok, I'll stop yammering on now and stop torturing you all with my run on sentences, especially if any of you are English majors, sorry about all of those comma splices. :)

  20. I actually would like to win because I know I would use this during my stroller walks with my little boys.

  21. Hmmmm... well I LOVE winning schtuff. Not that I ever do, but the anticipation always leaves me a little giddy. lol

    LOVE your blog!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm keeping my resolution so far! And since I didn't comment when they happened, loved the pictures of the desert.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm proud to say that I've been keeping up with my resolutions! Though I don't like calling them resolutions because I'd rather call it my new lifestyle. Anyhow, I'd love to try out the giveaway! Looks sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have not read your blog in a few weeks since I thought it had gotten kinda boring, but the last few posts have been just like the old you so I guess I will add you back to my everyday bloglist.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ahhhh how do I love youre paying it forward and sharing your stuffs.

    I love I love.

    and yeah.

Id take Id take--because Id then pay it forward to my single mom sister who'd love more workout treats!

  26. Yay! Portable exercise gizmos. Another excuse to skip exercise bannished. Thanks for that - i think.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have been wanting to try a supsension trainer for over a year now and would love to try it for free.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've tried working with a TRX before, thought it was fun but never gave it a real go. Perhaps this year I can try again.
As for resolutions, I think I'm doing pretty good. I vowed to focus on my physical/emotional/financial health in anticipation of a new member of the family and so far I'm on track. Still no bun in the oven, but I'm feeling great!

    ReplyDelete
  29. This is why I don't make New Year's resolutions. I just try to do better.
(BTW, I sent you another email. Hopefully this one gets through! Thanks for the heads-up!)

    ReplyDelete
  30. OOOOooooo... I like winning stuff. And TRX looks fun. Always enjoy your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Since I wasn't smart enough when you chose a winner, I'll just have to hope that I'm lucky enough this time!

    ReplyDelete
  32. OK, can't tell you how much I want this! I have tried to win every TRX contest out there - I would love to add this to my workouts!!!! Always looking for ways to challenge myself!

Honestly - the coaching - I would be afraid to find out stuff1 ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Those look awesome, I NEED some of those! Great giveaways and they aren't weird at all!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Man, I've been wanting to try a suspension trainer for a while! pick me, pick me...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh boy! Another way to torture myself!
I have read about this kind of workout- it looks really interesting!
Have you felt that this kind of workout is effective ( just curious?)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey pokeydog,

I use suspension training as an adjunct myself because I have lots of other workout options. But lots of fit people seem to use 'em as a primary go-to for both cardio and strength.

The best thing is that they're so portable so it really helps for travel where there are fewer options.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm working on my 2013 resolutions!

    Forewarned is forearmed :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. (Wow, lotsa comments already!)
I would not use that, either (fear of snapping back in face... seriously, a fella we know lost an eye, and another one is in rehab for brain damage sustained by a similar thing! Not to scare anyone, just sayin' - I'm too clumsy to risk it!)

And as far as my resolution goes? Doing great.... managing to hang in there with my promise to myself that I would lead just as dissolute and lazy lifestyle as I have prided myself on for these many years!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bag Lady--these aren't the snappy kind of bands, so no need to fear them, but with farming and ranching and all, you've got plenty of functional fitness opportunities in your life already.

    And LOVE your NY's reslolution!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, something international readers can win, too. Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm sort of glad the new year's resolutions are mostly faded since it means the gym is back to normal again. January is always crazy and hectic and I wish the new people the best and love it when they stay...but it's nice to be able to get to some of the classes and machines again :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'll put my name in the hat! I don't have any fitness resolutions this year, just keep on keeping on. Maybe I'll resolve to do a chin up. I've never managed to do one.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It'd be great to win this so I can stuff it in my bag when I go away for work, then I wouldn't have to worry about silly hotel gyms with no weights! A little use and sweat worries me not - just like any other gym equip really!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would love to win as 2012 is my year to get fit!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really like TRX, I would love to try the Jungle Gym XT so I could do these exercises at home!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Leaving a comment so I can have a chance at winning....thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I tried TRX yesterday and HOLY CRAPATOLLA, BATMAN! I am so sore. I love it and need one so bad. It's gonna be an awesome punishment device for when my kids and Hubbs are being butt heads!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Just found your site/blog! So far, I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  49. 12% is a really small number for new years resolutions! I didn't make a new years resolution, so I don't have much to worry about ;) But others do!! I guess your trying to recommend a personal trainer. Well, I have an online personal training website and I must say your new years resolution gig is pretty sweet. I wish I didn't miss the dead line :(
