The Blog Days of Summer

[By Merry]

Huh.

I know why you're here.

Everybody else took the week off and you're stuck at work trying to look busy, so you're reading a blog.

Tsk. What would the boss say?

Oh wait, he's one of the ones who took off for vacation. Well then, he's in no position to talk.

Okay, if you're going to be stuck at work, then the least I can do is try to distract you.

Where to go if you're looking for a vicarious vacation

Maui cam
I like this cam of a beach in Maui... I can almost hear the waves lapping against the shore... sigh...

Lion cam
I have to confess, I'm not ordinarily a great fan of Zoo cams. There's usually not a lot happening. This one, on the other hand, is weirdly addictive... at least when it's daytime in Norway. This camera shows a mama lion and several seriously cute lion cubs. If the link is dark, maybe it's not daytime in Norway. Or the server is overloaded. It's popular.

In case you are a wild fan of zoo cams:
Penguin cam

Panda Cam

Useful fitness information
(don't look so surprised, we do sometimes link to seriously useful stuff... once in a while, anyway)

From Hellasound:
Your first marathon: predicting race times and preparation

Useful device of the week:
A cell phone that keeps track of the number of steps you take and also monitors your blood sugar level.

Favorite videos of the week:

Exercise AND animal video of the week:
Cats on a treadmill

Winner of the Fiction, but Could Be Reality category:

Silly humor of the week:
Why Germany lost the war

Sadly, this is an entirely work appropriate picture

And finally, the quote of the week:
"One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important." - Bertrand Russell

Take the rest of the day off. Tell the boss I said it was okay. Oh wait, that's right, he's on vacation. Well then, go for it!

  1. Great bunch of time wasters... thanks!

    (I think).

Alas, the lions were not in the picture when I checked... I'd hoped they'd at least be lion around.

And your webcam round up made me curious... turns out there are several local webcams that can tell me what's going on outside in my own town. I'll never have to get off my ass and go for a walk again!

(Actually my local webcam was pretty boring; I'd rather see lions).

  5. I told my boss I was taking the rest of the day off.

    she's didnt like it.

something about the fact that her potty training waits for no holiday.

The Toddler Tornado is a cruel master.

    HAPPY 4th!!

  6. Oh, Mizft, you've got a tough boss! I guess if she's not taking the week off, then you can't either.

Well, the lions /were/ there. Yesterday there were 3 or 4 lion cubs crawling all over each other. It's really tempting to go "awwww" -- I always want to cuddle them, which would probably result in my arm being swiped off by Mama L.

  7. A few years ago I worked in Silicon Valley. From where I sat, I could either walk down the hall and look out the window to see how heavy the commuter traffic was, or I could look it up on a webcam. Yeah, I was lazy.

  12. Working during holidays is the best. You don't actually have to work and then you still get a day off another time. I highly recommend it.

  26. If you click on the text immediately underneath the dandelion photo, it takes you to the photographer's other photos on Flickr. Some cool stuff there!

  27. Wah! It's too dark to see Sedona! I'll have to wait until tomorrow. :(
