Up (Jack) Sh*t Creek: More Secret Blog Ramblings

Yet again Jack sneaks off from his own amusing blog Jack Sh*t, Gettin’ Fit and clues us in to the Secret Struggles of the Man Behind the Sh*t!

Welcome again, Jack! --Crabby

Here we are again.

This is my ongoing series from my super-secret weight-loss blogging project called Man Overboard that I started and abandoned (much like many of my diets) last year.

The Crankster has been kind enough to give me a new forum to run the posts.

Hope they float your boat.

Man Overboard: And The Band Played On

I don’t know if it’s true or not….

The story that the band aboard the S. S. Titanic continued to play as the great, doomed ship was going down.

That’s kind of the way I’ve been with my weight loss struggles.

Understanding that there was a problem.

Knowing that I was sinking.

Thinking I could do nothing to change it.

Might as well play on.

Play on… because in the face of certain disaster, there is cold comfort in something that puts a smile on your face, even if it’s only for a minute or two.

Play on… because sometimes anything more than instant gratification doesn’t seem like it’s worth the effort.

Play on…

Or not.

I can see the iceberg coming on the distant horizon.

There’s time to save myself if I can just get up and get going.

There’s a lifeboat with my name on it.

Get in and start rowing.

“Sometimes, though, you make a pact with yourself. I'll pretend there's nothing wrong if you pretend there's nothing wrong. It's called denial, and it's one of the strongest pacts in the world. Just ask all those people who were still drinking champagne while the Titanic went down.”

  1. Good analogy. I've finally started to take action in my personal life. I've stopped going with the flow in an unfulfilling, passion free marriage. Guess I will be rowing ashore to divorce mediation. It's a new day.

    1. Wow Bob Ben, know that's a tough situation and some rocky shores to navigate but I sense you've got a lot of strength to weather the storms!

All right, sorry, enough with the nautical metaphors. Sending hugs because relationship break-ups are so hard! But so often its the only way to move forward and I hope you take really good care of yourself during the process. Let us Cranketeers know if you need any extra support, even if all we can do is let you know we care and are thinking of you.

    2. Thanks Crabby it means a lot to know you are all thinking of me.

I am taking good care of myself today. I went to 30-30-30 for the first time. I made it through 30-30! So that's a start.

  2. Ha! You might want to rethink this analogy, actually. The problem with the Titanic was not enough life boats, rather than a fatalistic attitude. The people who played on or drank champagne were pretty nobly giving up spaces to others.

But I do agree that holding onto hope and keeping an eye out for opportunity are excellent advice!

  3. Hey Jack - I went over to your blog yesterday and saw you'd had a very happy weigh-in last week. I guess you are good at following your advice! I only wish I'd read this before I ate that cookie.

  4. Jacks' blog is so, so familiar to me.

I was a member of the Titanic band for a long time.

    NO MORE!

    Now?

You can just call me The Unsinkable Molly Brown!

  5. The band is playing in regard to my exercise regimen. While i'm still exercising, it's a shambles. The band needs to call it a day.

  7. I am glad I am not the only one. I hope I didn't contribute to your struggles. I somehow have no doubt that both of us will be back at it again, once this metabolic recalibration happens.
