Running Shoe Giveaway!

[By Crabby]

Cool, huh? These awesome Aetrex High Performance running shoes are up for grabs! Check 'em out!

By now, you know the drill. Details on why the shoes are so nifty and how you can win a pair can be found below, so Giveaway Skimmers, feel free to skip down.

However, those who are not U.S. residents, who are not wearers of women's lavender running shoes, or who actually come to the blog to read the ramblings of a Confused Crab--have a seat! Kick off whatever shoes you may be wearing, and join us while we discuss the shocking subject of:

Inappropriate Sneaker Love! (Also known as Kedophilia?)

I have to confess to a bad case myself. I love athletic shoes! Hiking shoes, cross trainers, even soccer cleats--but mostly running shoes. In particular, trail runners. I wear them all over the place, like a perpetual kid.

In fact my closet is full of them, help!

And it's not like I buy that many, either, it's just that I grow so attached to them all that I can't throw them away. Even when they have holes in them and no practically no tread left. When I can't wear them to run I wear them to walk; when I can't wear them to walk I wear them to do mucky chores, and when I have too many "yard shoes" I still hang onto them, God knows why.

Perhaps it's a related to my other shoe disorder: dress-shoe-a-phobia. High heels are particularly feared, but anything firm and tight and pointed and shiny is to be avoided unless there's a funeral or something.

No Thanks!

I was like that as a kid, too. I hated "school" shoes (I believe they were saddle shoes, back then). But my sneakers? Couldn't get me out of them. My Mom would try to throw them away when they were full of holes, but I'd dig them back out of the garbage again.

(They looked a lot like these except totally trashed).

Anyone else have this problem? Please tell me I'm not the only one!

So enough about Crabby's old shoes and the wonderfulness of athletic shoes generally. Let's talk about the Aetrex shoes and how you can win 'em!

About the Shoes:
These babies are the Aetrex z591 Web Runner for women. (I think the "web" they're referring to is probably not the World Wide Web; it must have to do with the webbing on the shoe. But heck, feel free to use them for virtual internet running activities if that's your thing). The shoes come in medium width; sizes 5-12.

To quote a knowledgable source, they've got: "supportive cushioning for medium and high arch feet, Aeromax mesh upper with Web Fushion Technology, Sky midsole for soft, long-lasting cushioning, Web Suspension Footbridge for reinforcement and support and PRS Midsole Technology for pressure relief. "

The Aetrex folks have been around forever, and have been well-known for their very fine orthopedic shoes and orthotics, but now they've apparently decided to take that technological know-how and stuff some of it into a new line of high performance running shoes. They also got something called "iStep," which is a "digital foot analysis device" found at various retailers, which can measure and analyze your feet and their issues and give you a"blueprint" suitable for framing, or perhaps more pragmatically, for fitting you with customized insoles.

To Enter the Drawing for the Aetrex Shoes:
Just leave a comment! Alas, the shoes can only be sent to U.S. residents, which is always heartbreaking, since we love our international readers.

A Random Number Generator will choose the winner Tuesday night, Sept 16th; winner announced Wednesday, Sept 17th. If you win, please email to claim your prize by Friday Sept 19th.

And have a great weekend!

  1. I don't know that I have an unnatural attachment to shoes, so much as the surely-it-must-still-be-good-for-something syndrome.

The best treatment for this syndrome - vising my parents! Both packrats, but packrats of different things. Eeek!

But please enter me. If I win, I will happily give my winnings to my sister in the US.

  2. All I wear (to work, to parties, to the gym) is athletic shoes. LOVE 'EM. I'd love to try out a new brand, they look really nice!

  3. Ooo, lavender! I'd love to try 'em out.

  4. I'm in

Unnatural atachment to shoes o'the running ilk and READY to receive not give ;)

  5. I want shoes! Please enter me! I've tried so many brands and still cant find the perfect shoe.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm not a shoe maniac, but I need two pairs of shoes when I go to the gym; one for running there, and a pair of flats for lifting weights. I like lavender, too!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ooooo! Cute shoes!

Please enter me. I go through running shoes like water...

    ReplyDelete
  8. I need these shoes so bad. I wish I could have a closet full, but I don't. I would love to change out my shoes every six months, but I don't. Too expensive!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Aw! And I really need new runners, too. Damn this country I live in.

I have the exact same problem as you, Crabby. One of my favourite parts of my last job was the fact that I not only got to wear jeans, but my runners as well. I just can't do the dress shoe thing. I wish someone would rule that expecting women to wear uncomfortable shoes to work is discriminatory, but that's probably never going to happen.

  10. I'm in, I'm really in need of new running shoes!

  11. This is possibly only the second or third time I've been able to almost instantly leave a comment. I wonder if high-speed access has invaded my computer without my knowledge? That's a virus I'd love to have.

And I'd love some new running shoes, too. Thanks for offering them.

  12. Me needs those shoes. Me loves lavender. Me loves running shoes. Me needs to stop talking like this.

And I haven problems getting rid of old shoes, too. They remind me of good times! (But I am okay with dresses and kitten heels. No high heels though.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Crabby, you have my sympathy! I, too, keep my shoes for chores until they are so nasty I can't even bring them in the house.

Lately I've been giving them to a lady who collects them for recycling (I think it is a big shoe company that takes them and uses them for material to line playgrounds or something).

I also loathed school shoes and wear only very low heel dress shoes, and only when absolutely necessary.

These would be put to good use here.

  14. Woot! Baby needs a new pair of shoes! and by baby I mean me. Do they come in half sizes?

  15. I desperately need some new running shoes...what greate timing!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just wrote a whole big long comment about how much I LOVE shoes and then for some reason, it didnt show up.

    dammit.

I love shoes. Shoes are my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love, love, love sneakers! This is a great giveaway and I would love to win!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Shoes are definitely my weakness! I NEED new running shoes! really! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shoes are my crack. That said, I find it really interesting that a new shoe company is entering the athletic shoe market. I can't remember the last time that happened. You'd think it would be hard to break into that industry... Am looking forward to hearing more about these.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ooooh. mama want.

and they're pretty too - perfect for work! note, of course, i work in an office and wear suits to work, but that's *beside* the point.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have about 8 pairs of sneakers. I can't throw them away either, not even the one shoe that the dog sort of chewed up! I don't even wear it anymore, but it still claims space in my closet.

I have a few pair of dressy shoes. They're shoved far in the back of the closet and emerge about once a year for weddings. All my other shoes are flip flops and sneakers!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow, they come in 12s??? So I could have girly lavender running shoes instead of the orange-and-grey boys' (erm, men's I guess) ones I have now?

    Rapture!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love the feeling of a new pair of athletic shoes...it is like your feet just automatically roll to take the step, you can't help but walk/run/move!

    ReplyDelete
  24. They're so cute! And I probably need new running shoes.

I definitely hang onto my shoes. And I loove heels. I wore high heels every day in High school and only stopped in college because there was too much rain. I'm starting to embrace kitten heels, but anything under 2 inches that isn't a sneaker, and I'm not gonna wear it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Some women crave Manolo Blahniks and Gucci purses. I hoard sneakers and backpacks. Would love to add another pair to my collection :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have actually been running in the same pair of running shoes for almost 10 years now. I'm pretty sure fitness experts say that's bad...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd love to win me these fancy running shoes. Been thinkin' I need to start running again, and if I won these, then I'd be good as obligated... right? ;) Thanks for the offer!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now that I've decided to be a triathlete, I guess I'll need to get some running shoes! ;-) I'm generally not much of a shoe person. But, I have a passion for hiking shoes, like Mephistos.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Looking for a new running shoe. Would love to try this one.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hate wearing shoes at all but since civilized society demands it, I try to get by with wearing as little shoe as possible. Which means, I can often be found in the dead of winter, at the grocery store in flip flops. And the most despised shoe of all, tennis shoes. My feet just feel so crowded in there. I do love heels though, I'm a sucker for pretty shoes and since my job is sitting down most of the time, it works for me. Before you count me out of this giveaway, though, I do need good shoes for when I'm working out, that's the only time you'll find me in these things but that shoe is really cute and I'd love to try it. Who knows, it might even get me over my hatred of tennis shoes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I loved high-heeled shoes in my teens and 20s. I was tallish (5'8") and loved adding the 3 or so inches to my then long, skinny legs.. sigh! Now I'm shorter by close to an inch and I live in running shoes. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The tv show "The Works" on the History Channel featured Aetrex shoes on an episode all about athletic shoes. Fitness geek heaven, that episode.

  33. After trying the Asic, Nike, Adidas's I always go back to my cheap New Balance.....could be my weird feet! Just a ramble from my end...I linked to you on todays post....I think I already mentioned that! Have a great weekend. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Weird coincidence. I was just looking at running shoes on the Consumer Reports web site. I really need a new pair. I have an unnatural attachment to beautiful high heels that I wear once then put away in favor of my ugly comfy Earth shoes. Sad, sad, sad.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I hate to part with comfortable shoes. I've worn the most disreputable-looking runners out in public just 'cuz I could not bear to let them go.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Those look cool! It's hard to find a comfortable yet cute shoe.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm wearing lime green yoga shoes right now so I cannot imagine someone not wanting lavender gym shoes. Silly people.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love shoes, period. The hubster calls me Imelda and thinks I have a problem because all my shoes are boxed seasonally and the boxes are labeled. I wonder how he can survive with only 4 pairs: workboot, dress shoe, sneaker, casual shoe. Right now my closet is over run with running shoes since I'm in marathon training. Thankfully, the marathon I'm running always has a huge box to donate old but still usable running shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I usually only wear sneakers at the gym, unless I'm hiking or some other sneaker-involved activity. I love me my clogs :)

I have trouble finding sneakers that fit me and don't aggravate my plantar fasciitis. I have really wide feet. I've gotten good at walking in shoes that are an inch too long.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Now THIS is a great giveaway. Just in time to save me from having to purchase new ones since my old ones are totally worn out!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would definitely wear these! My old shoes are pretty ratty looking, and I also hate to throw them out. I will probably add them to my "yard work" pile of shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No body deserves running shoes more than this body!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hate wearing high heels. I was six feet tall at 13 and spent most of my teen years trying to minimize my height. I was also clumsy as all get out so I just never got used to wearing them. Love to look at them though.

Instead my closet it full of tennis shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Love your site!
Would love to try the shoes!
    Very Cute!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Not available to Canadians, eh?
    Dang it.
The Bag Lady is much the same as Crabby in that she has an unnatural attachment to her old shoes. Even, dare she say it, to the point of fetish-ness? (well, okay, perhaps not a fetish.....) :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Please count me in for this giveaway....I so desperately need a new pair of shoes for my workout regime :)

    Great site too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I do not wear athletic shoes except when being athletic.. my new MBTs being the exception. But I'm "athletic" a lot! I also can no longer wear high heels (sigh).

But I have an unreasonable fondness for clogs and mules and Keens Hydro Sandals. (I keep hoping if I say that often enough they will just send me a pair!)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Canadians need new shoes too...*sniff*

I was attached to an old pair of converse hightops so badly that my mom actually had to take them from my closet when asleep and throw them out where I could not find them (I'd reclaimed them a number of times before that)...there wasn't much left of them but man I loved them.

Now, I am in love with Adidas superstar running shoes...altho I'm a bit more mature about it. I jsut keep replacing the same shoe with a pair of the same every few years, varying the stripe colour. If they ever stop making them I am hooped :)
I love shoes for running tho. I'll need a new pair by spring and I hope they still make them...it took me ages to pick them out.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Aetrex and Crabby, Jimmy Choo's got nuthin' on you!
Love me some running shoes.Love running. Love my new job because wearing scrubs allows (oh happy day) for wearing running shoes. Happy feet, happy me.
ps does Aetrex make a nice soft sandal to put on after a 15 mile run?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Can I rock these like Melanie Griffith in Working Girl? I totally will if I win them, I promise!

    ReplyDelete
  51. i am in. I need a new pair of running shoes

    ReplyDelete
  52. Uh, hello!!!! An unnatural attraction to sneakers? I SO have that. It's almost a point of contention in my couple, because I have so many shoes... My latest acquisition are a pair of air-rift (thanks Mizfit)...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Me Me Me Me Me! These look awesome! And my color! I've never seen any lavender sneakers before. But then, I don't get out much.

I just bought a new pair of athletic shoes and they are a bit of a disappointment. Feel funny.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've never heard of this brand but they're SOOO pretty

    ReplyDelete
  55. I suffer from running shoe hoarding as well. I have an entire closet filled with disgusting, nearly rotting shoes that I never wear but hold a near and dear place in my heart. It's like my athletic memorabilia sickness!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just started running outside again, and my several year old shoes could use replacing!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love shoes AND I need new running shoes - coincidence? I think not! Obviously it is time for me to win an internet contest.

I also love high heels, dress boots, sandals, pumps, wedges espadrilles, and all other shoes except crocs. *sigh* shoes......

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'd love to give these a try. Thanks so much for setting this up!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would love to win these shoes as I haven't had running shoes or ran in who knows how long and I'd like to try out the couch to 5k training plan.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I really need a new pair of running shoes, this would be perfect for my giant feet!

    win me!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Cute Shoes, I love trail running shoes too!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. oh me! alas, i need new running shoes and don't have the proper funds to buy some... hey, it's tough livin' in the bay area.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh, I seriously need new running shoes. The inside of my current shoes are peeling up. Blech! Also, my daughter jumped in a mud puddle too close to me the other day and my nice white and pink shoes are now white and brown and pink. YUCK!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love athletic shoes also. But what's really funny is that the first thing I did when I got to the comments page was look for Alice. My homegirl out west loves her some athletic shoes. So if I win I will probably give them to her. In which case I am so not looking at those shoes again or I may be tempted to keep them to myself. Well, if I win I mean. hehehe

    Jenn

    ReplyDelete
  65. Those shoes are so pretty and perfect that if I don't win them I may be tempted to buy a pair anyway!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. My other shoes are just about to be put to rest, and a free pair would just make my day! Plus, I just joined Weight Watchers and you know they encourage that 8 letter word! Exercise!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Awesome giveaway! These are so cute, I love em =]

    ReplyDelete
  68. i love them! please enter me - my old sneakers need to be chucked! ;) meg@kissmystyle.com

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have a HUGE attachment to my running shoes.

    In fact.

I wear them everywhere. Literally. Actually I'd prefer not to but when you've got one leg longer than the other and need to wear a lift in your shoes, and most fancy heels etc aren't built to have lifts installed, it leaves you pretty limited for the kinds of shoes you can wear!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I heart Lavender on anything!! Shoes would be a first, so pick me randon # generator!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I too love shoes, all shoes, not just the sneaker variety -- had a pair of go-go boots as a kid (now that really ages me.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Would love to have more shoes. Count me in.

  73. I actually read through the whole comment without skipping to the bottom. :) I've been a lurker for years but will pop out for a chance at shoes that don't scream Kmart Blue Light Special.

    ReplyDelete
  74. ooo! free. i needs me some marathon shoes (umm...non kmart brand) but, alas, i'm too poor.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I REALLY REALLY REALLY need new shoes! Puh-lease!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I convince myself that I need all of those shoes. You're supposed to wear a different pair every day of the week right? (or month) lol. Please enter me, many of my favorites have become "shoes to paint in" lately.

  77. I love lavender and could really use a new pair of shoes, thank you very much for offering these! Please sign me up!

  78. so awesome! (I'm a sneaker girl too. I suffer through heels when I must)

    poor poor Canadians.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I am new to this site! I actually ran across it looking up the fat content of pistachios. Anyway, those sneakers look really comfy! I need a new pair. I wear the ones that I have for gardening, running walking and camping. It would be nice to have those to use only for what they are intended for!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Love shoes. All sorts, really (except the pointy toe), but ESPECIALLY sneakers.

And I am training to run a LEON (known in some circles as a half-marathon) and it's killer. Miles upon miles.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Those are some snazzy shoes! I'd definately be interested in trying them.

    ReplyDelete
  82. HOLY FREAKIN COMMENTS.

I just bought new running shoes and love them dearly, so someone else can have these ones.

I also have a shoe addiction, except I buy shoes i never wear. mainly heels. i like heels but i cant jusitfy wearing them just anywhere cause i dont wanna look all hookery, and i never go anywhere that heels are required. so every once in a while I just throw them i na pile and roll around on them. its hurts, but thats how much i love them.

  85. Ohmigosh I would love to win these. I've had the same gym shoes for three years. Any wonder my feet hurt in weird little ways any time I try to run?

I, too, and heelophobic. It's only in the last few years I've gotten over skirtophobia. But skirts don't hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm loving those stripes. They're all strappy.

  92. I bought a new pair of shoes over the weekend.. and alas I'm convinced they're about a half size too small. AND I can't return them.. stupid decision on my part to buy shoes while out of town.

So if I could get FREE new shoes.. I wouldn't feel so bad anymore about my sneaky feeling that I'm working out in too-small shoes.. ugh. *tear*

    ReplyDelete
  93. I like free things and shoes. A winning combo.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I know lots of people who are obsessed with shoes, and I just...haven't been. I like a good pair, but I've only been really attached to a few. Sweaters, though? I have way, way too many of those. And I live in a warm climate.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Wow! These are the shoes I'd pick to try on if I saw them in the store. I love lavender.

I don't have many shoes because it's hard to find comfortable shoes in my size. I'm sad they only come in medium. I have wide feet. But, I have a friend who's training for a 5k, and she's inspired me to work on eating healthier. So, I'd like her to have them.

  124. I love athletic shoes too but but I just get one pair until I get another one. I don't have a garden though. So once I think that they have had enough, I just put them in the back of the closet. But today, I did something about it. The not smelly, still nice looking ones, I donated to charity. The nasty ones hit the trash. Thanks for helping address my packrat ways. By the way, shoe size 7.

    EVIL!
Platforms, those I can wear...anything else and I break/sprain an ankle or fall down stairs, or just fall over for no reason.

Alas, I have given up on finding comfortable athletic shoes. I have incredibly little arch to my feet, and they are wider than average. Poo.

  162. I also have an unnatural attachment to shoes - I currently have several pairs of running shoes of varying ages, and can't seem to throw them out. But I can't run in them either because they are too old and/or uncomfortable for running. I tried running in my newest pair this weekend and they were *awful*.

I would love to try these new shoes!

  169. Thanks for the effort you took to expand upon this topic so thoroughly. I used to remember how looked good with their combat shoes soldiers. Also it’s true for footballers a good soccer boot is the key to your success as a soccer player. I can hardly imagine what good a player can do without soccer boots. Use this information to decide what you need, or want, and go get it.
Arguably and nike soccer boots the most popular in the world.
    Thanks guys!
