Weight Loss & Body Image

Cranky Fitness is not actually a "weight loss" blog; it's a health blog. In fact, we hate the way so many health magazines and websites are obsessed with weight-loss, particularly those that are aimed at women. The pictures of super-skinny models and the implied promise that every woman could, and should, be a size zero? That does not make us motivated; that makes us want to hurl large objects through plate glass windows.

On the other hand, we live in a culture that encourages inactivity and the massive over-consumption of junk food. This has led to the clichéd, but all too real, obesity epidemic.  Unrestrained, unhealthy eating and uncontrolled weight gain are not good for our bodies. So for people who are seriously overweight and have health issues, trying to shed pounds in a sensible manner may indeed be a very healthy thing to do.

So here are some random posts about weight loss, dieting and body image, followed by an index of post labels related to these topics.  Many of these posts are philosophical or satirical; more practical advice may also be found on the motivation, nutrition, and exercise pages.
